Chinese Congregation Launch
Since the advent of Bethel’s More + Better campaign in the fall of 2017, we have eagerly and graciously anticipated the fruition of some of the campaign’s key objectives. While it has been easy to observe the steady weekly progress in the various facility-related aspects of More + Better, there has been constant behind-the-scenes progress in at least one other component of the campaign: namely the Bethel Chinese Congregation.
Sunday, June 9 marked the genesis of the Bethel Chinese Congregation, a first-of-its-kind initiative to provide Mandarin language worship, discipleship, and evangelism to the population of nearly 3,000 Chinese people in Lake and Porter Counties.
Pastor Tim Chen preached a sermon in Mandarin and was assisted by an English language translator, enabling bilingual families the ability to worship together. There were 89 in attendance, approximately 70 of whom were members of the Chinese community.
Calvary Baptist Church of Highland, Indiana hosted the Chinese congregation and graciously served a reception to the newly formed fifth congregation of Bethel Church.
We look forward to the future as we seek to make More + Better disciples of Jesus Christ!
